Valdosta State University Viola Day 2013

Valdosta State University will host its third annual Viola Day on October 12, 2013 from 12-9pm.

vladosta-viola-dayRenate Falkner, viola. Praised for her versatility and creativity, American violist Renate Falkner enjoys an active career as an orchestral and chamber musician, performing across the U.S. and abroad.  Equally at home on both modern and baroque viola, she is a member of the New Haven Symphony, Boston Baroque and has performed with groups such as the Baltimore Symphony, Orchestra New England, and Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra.  Ms. Falkner holds degrees from the Oberlin College and Conservatory, the Yale School of Music, and is completing a doctorate at F.S.U.  Currently, she is on the faculty of the University of North Florida.

Lauren Burns currently serves as Lecturer in Viola at Valdosta State University, Principal Viola of the Valdosta Symphony, violist of the Azalea String Quartet, and Director of the South Georgia String Project, winner of the 2011 NSPC String Project of the Year.  During the summers, she is a faculty artist at the Premier Orchestral Institute in Jackson, MS and the Schlern International Music Festival in South Tyrol, Italy.  Recent orchestral, chamber and solo performances have taken her to Périgueux (France), Graz and Bad Leonfelden (Austria), Havana (Cuba), and seventeen cities in China.  She holds degrees from the University of South Carolina and Peabody Conservatory, and she has completed a DMA at the University of Alabama.

M. Brent Williams is currently the Concertmaster of the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Asst. Concertmaster of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra and Principal Second of the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra. A dedicated chamber musician, he is the first violinist of enhaké (www.enhake.com) who collectively won the Grand Prize at the Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition, First Prize at the 3rd International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition (Boston), and were finalists at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition and Festa (Osaka, Japan). Williams has been a lecturer of Violin and World Music at VSU since 2008 and has recorded for the Naxos, Koch and Emeritus labels.

The Sexteto Latinoamericano D’camara was founded by the principals of the San Pedro Sula Chamber Orchestra in the spring of 2003 with the name of “The Mozart Quintet” in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.  Sexteto Latinoamericano D’camara is performing at Valdosta State University as part of their 10th anniversary international tour called “New Horizons” that will start in Louisiana and finish in New York City.
