They act as the primary liaison with the national organization, overseeing chapter activities, financial reporting, and implementing professional development or string education advocacy.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Leadership & Administration: Preside over executive board and general membership meetings.
Strategic Planning: Work with officers and advisors to set chapter goals, plan activities, and create annual budgets.
Governance: Act as the primary liaison between the local chapter and state/national ASTA leadership, ensuring bylaws are followed.
Membership Growth: Lead recruitment efforts, welcome new members, and maintain an active community presence.
Operations & Events: Oversee the scheduling of meetings, workshops, or specialized events like the Certificate Advancement Program (ASTACAP).
Reporting: Ensure compliance with national guidelines by filing required reports (e.g., annual financial and activity reports) to state or national officers.
Diversity & Inclusion: Foster an open and respectful culture, aligning local activities with the national mission of inclusion in string education.
Chapter President-Elect serves as a key leadership role, supporting the President and preparing to lead, with duties focused on event programming, membership recruitment, and representing the association. They typically assume the role of President after their term, ensuring leadership continuity.

Leadership Support & Succession: Act as the primary assistant to the President, acting on their behalf when absent and preparing to assume the office of President.
Membership Development: Organize, lead, or oversee membership drives on/off-campus or within the state section to grow the chapter.
Programming & Planning: Plan and organize meeting programs, special events, or workshops for the chapter.
Board Participation: Participate actively in executive board meetings and contribute to strategic planning.
Financial Acumen: In some cases, participate in committee leadership, such as the mentor program or reviewing non-profit financial statements.
Chapter Secretary handles administrative tasks, including maintaining documentation, communicating with officers, recording minutes at board meetings, and storing files in a shared drive. They ensure compliance with chapter bylaws, coordinate with national ASTA, and support member involvement.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Records Management: Maintains all board paperwork, records, and documentation organized (usually in Google Drive).
Meeting Administration: Regularly attends chapter board meetings and keeps them on schedule.
Minutes Generation: Transcribes meetings, creates accurate minutes, and distributes them to board members, often within a three-week timeframe.
Communication: Maintains regular communication with the Chapter President and President-Elect.
National Communication: Coordinates with the National ASTA office and provides necessary documentation upon request.
Support & Documentation: Helps track membership and ensures all activities are properly documented in line with the chapter's bylaws.
For local chapters, this role ensures the smooth, organized operation of the organization, facilitating communication between board members and the national entity.
Chapter treasurer serves as the custodian of funds, managing all financial records, banking, and reporting for the chapter. Key duties include preparing annual budgets, depositing income, handling reimbursements, submitting financial reports to the chapter board and national office, and ensuring compliance with non-profit tax regulations.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Financial Management: Establish and manage chapter bank accounts, including holding check-signing authority and managing savings/checking accounts.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all income and expenses, ensuring proper documentation (e.g., invoices, receipts).
Reporting: Present Treasurer’s Reports at regular chapter meetings and prepare annual financial reports to be submitted to the ASTA National Office.
Compliance: File necessary IRS forms and state tax forms as required for non-profit organizations.
Reporting Requirements: Specific state/chapter duties include submitting financial reports to the state board by February 15 and August 15, and managing membership rebates.
Transition: Prepare signature cards for new officers and transfer all financial records to the incoming treasurer at the end of the term.
